Let's talk soccer

I remember three or four years ago, there was so much hype when the Soweto derby was looming. Everyone, even non-fans, would know about it up to a month before the occasion.

There were makarapa dancing all around the townships with excited, spirited soccer enthusiasts, drooling at the opportunity to joust their adversaries, and ultimately gain bragging-rights over the vanquished for months to come.

Are the South African soccer giants dead? Where has all the interest in the Soweto derby gone? Is it not worrying that two seasons before the 2010 world cup in South Africa, what is meant to be one of the PSL's biggest and most anticipated clashes, is failing to get people on the street talking?
Do you think that a deur-mekaar Safa, dispassionate players, foreign coaches and so on have an impact on the lack of soccer fever? Or do you think that football supporters and fans alike are just acting like spoilt brats, always demanding more than they know what to do with?
